Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Default Diagnostic tool

Hello All,

I tried to look around in the forum to find a good diagnostic tool for my Hummer H2 (2003). It seems the VXDiag could be a good choice. The company suggested me the VXDIAG VCX NANO.
Any pros/cons on this?

Thanks!

Default It depends.....

There's a lot of choices out there. I guess a lot of it depends on if you're using it daily in a shop, then you want one with lots of memory that's faster. Or just for personal use for diagnostic purposes, which is what I ended up getting. There's a lot of inexpensive Chinese clones out there, I spent around $135 for the CGSULIT SC530. Which you can buy directly from their website if you Google it, or through Amazon. With the abundance of choices I relied on the Amazon feedback which is pretty good on this one. Plus with Amazon you don't like it there's a no hassle return. But I would not part with it at this point. It does what it advertises. It's a true bidirectional scanner. You can reset your cam and crankshaft position sensors, send commands to all the various functions to test them, and get real time data for example on each fuel injector, as well as your ignition system. It will handle the command to bleed the ABS system and about 20 other items. All for cheaper than one visit for the dealer to plug in. And unlike the programmers that are tied to only one VIN number and require a license for more, you can own a hundred Hummers and use this thing on each one. There's a lot of choices out there, but I know for sure this one works perfect.
Note: you'll see on its home screen the first icon says OBD2. If you select that, that's just to scan for codes and save or erase them. The second icon is GM. You select that, then select smart Vin and it will identify your VIN, select the choice for under 8,600 GVW, then AWD. Then you're at the screen with a lot of options. If you go down to special functions, that's where you really get your money's worth. You can send commands to test items, or watch the data in real time numerically or on a graph. If you have a random misfire going on, you get it set up on the graph showing real-time data for each injector and each coil and go for a drive. Review when you get back.

Thank you Robert, you helped me a lot to choose. The company seems to be promising, as so as the tool. What year is from your H2? To answer your question, it would be for personal use only, so it meets the expectation.

Is this the tool, right?

Finally, I ordered the VXDiag VCX Nano.

Default Benefits...

I guess the main benefits are it saves you a lot of money and having the dealer plug their computer in to reset will amounts to 30 different functions. Add 175 locally to do that for one time plugging in, it could get insane really fast. The bi-directional scanner is great for diagnosing the factory parameters. If you want to go and tweak fuel settings, shift points and tire size, then you go for a programmer like the Diablo

I've got a few different ones including the vcx nano, some are having trouble getting it to connect to the vehicle, i have not had this issue with mine and use it a good bit for everything including programing on multiple vehicles, 96 & 98 Z71 Silverado, 08 hummer, 09 Colorado, 15 escalade, etc....,. If your not handy with computers its best to buy the laptop and tool package already set up. with this package comes support which I have used a couple times.

It really depends what you want form the tool, programing, strictly diagnostics, bi-directional controls, etc.....

I've got the MDI knock off also but find myself using the nano more often just because its easier with less wires,
I've got the Tech II knock off and find it the best for diagnostics but not programming, its a bear to get everything connected and working for programing. The Tech II is the fastest tool to pull out of the box and do diagnostics, the others take time to get them up and running if you haven't used them in a while.

I also have a OBDLink MX Plus, I keep this one in my truck all the time, while it does not have bi-directional controls it offers OEM specific diagnostics from your phone and works with multiple apps for real time scanning etc.....

Thanks! It really sounds promising. I’m planning to buy an older Getac laptop and put to the back of my truck if anything happens. But I will check the OBDLink too.
