Dexron III alternative
Hello everyone,
I have looked everywhere and couldn’t find an answer.
to make it short, for Hummer H2, 2004. Should you use ATF III (h) or Dexron VI?
in the manual it says Dexron III and both of the above mentioned can replace Dexron III.
the acdleco website states Dexron VI when I entered my vehicle info, same for the dealer.
however, on the description it is mentioned it is used for 2006 and above. Some people are ignoring the dealership and acdleco and advising to use ATF III (h)
please advice.
p.s. I newly purchased it and I don’t know what the old owner used previously. The car has 165KM
thank you

Thank you for your reply.
ACDelco Gold ATF Type III (H) is a premium quality automatic transmission fluid for use in a variety of passenger cars and light trucks. It is formulated with select base oils and additives to meet the heavy demands placed on automatic transmissions, including the generation of electronically controlled transmissions. ACDelco Gold ATF Type III (H) is recommended for the following uses: when DEXRON-III(H), DEXRON-III(G), DEXRON-II(E), DEXRON-II, or Type A Fluids are required, in all automatic transmissions built by GM that do not require DEXRON-VI, and can also be used in some hydraulic and compressor systems where excellent low temperature flow ability is required.

However, the same mentioned on ATF III without mentioning dates. That's why it is confusing. It is clearly mentioned that ATF III can be used as a replacement as well. Anyone here tried and know the difference?
Are these two compatible with each other? Meaning, if i change mine now which I don't know what is it to Dexron or ATF, would it cause any issues?
Thank you for your answer. That means all models. 2005 and prior, and 2006 moving forward.

Recommended for any transmission that calls for DEXRON-VI, III, or II(E).
ACDelco DEXRON-VI automatic transmission fluid is the most recent release in the well-established DEXRON Series of automotive transmission fluids. It provides more consistent shift performance, even in extreme conditions, and degrades less over time. DEXRON-VI helps automatic transmissions last longer and perform better. Fully licensed and approved by GM, it is recommended for use in GM transmissions model year 2006 and newer calling for DEXRON-VI automatic transmission fluid (replaces DEXRON-III and DEXRON-II(E)), and recommended for any transmission that calls for DEXRON-VI, III, or II(E). ACDelco DEXRON-VI automatic transmission fluid is not for use in CVT (Continuously Variable Transmissions) or DCT (Dual Clutch Transmissions) that require specialized fluids.
Dude, only use Dexron VI, the latest. And only the GM brand.
It is backwards compatible on the H2, like Hummerz said.
It is like using old dino oil vs synthetic oil.
Why would anyone use crappy old oil, unless you are trying to save a buck? In which case it is false economy. Really false.
I stick to factory (AC Delco) liquids + grease, other than engine oil (Mobil 1 full synthetic). Keeps your H2 running smoothly. No "purple" or other aftermarket crap ever poured into my baby.

Both ATF III and Dexron VI are AC Delco and not aftermarket. I'm asking about ATF III which is also AC Delco and not aftermarket and it is also mentioned on there that it can be used instead of Dexron III.
My question whats the difference between AC delco ATF III and Dexron VI? If both can be used instead of Dexron III which is mentioned on the AC Delco website.
I am comparing Dexron VI to this one:
https://www.acdelco.com/parts/oils-f...smission-fluid
Which clearly states that it can be used as an alternative to Dexron III.
