Default Cruise Control She's A Work Most Of The Time

Then all of a sudden...Na-Da... Then comes back whenever. WTF? is that the BCM messing with me of a dirty contact somewhere? The Steering wheel light comes on indicating Cruise is on but when you hit "SET" No Symbol in the Speedo...and No Cruise... What do rip out to find the problem? The 2 is a 2009 Lux.

These rigs keep you on your toes. No codes set...so I have no clue where to look.

Any ideas from the Master's?

If I remember correctly mine did the same things years back and it was the brake switch on the pedal, its a 2 pole switch, one side for the brake lights and the other for the cruise off function
If you have a scanner you should be able to see the cruise status in the ECM with a history of the last 8 times it was used and what shut it down.

this is all from memory and its been while back, I may be thinking of a different truck, I can plug into mine and see if this is correct tomorrow if you need me to

The current flow through the brake light indicators is monitored by the BCM, faulty bulb will cancel the cruise control, might be worth checking this.

Hello. I feel your pain. I have a 09 H2 myself. I haven't attempted to use the cruise control feature, but I'm starting to learn that these H2's are electrical nightmares. Currently, the Tighten Gas Cap indicator comes on, which sometimes trigger the Check Engine light. Replace gas cap, have my auto technician clear all the fault codes, yet the Tighten Gas Cap indicator comes right back on. Also, steering wheel controls for the factory radio work intermittingly. Mechanically, one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. The electrical issues will have you go crazy. God bless you, on resolving this issue.

the steering control buttons get oxidized after years of not being used. if you dont use them you loose them. same for pretty much every button on the truck.
you can try mashing on them while the truck is off and see if they clean themselves up or replace them.
as for the gas cap. you might have a leak at the filler neck. or the cap does not seal maybe rust or bad cap seal. or rust pinholes some where like the fuel pump tank flange or filler neck itself.
the majority of electronic switches and push button internal contacts are coated with silver over brass or copper base part. if you have ever dealt with any of those metals. they all oxidize. think of coins or jewelry or door *****.

Ok what is a Brake Light Indicator?..L.O.L. The Cruise control is used all the time every time I drive the rig. So your saying that a Rear Brake light "Bulb" that is burned out could cause the fault issue. When the cruise is working and you apply the breaks the Cruise cuts off like it should.

I think the steering wheel switches are good as far as oxidation as I use them all the time. I bet if I get in the 2 now and fire it up it will work. Then maybe a week later it will S_ _T the bed.

Have to see the power flow thru the system as I think it's maybe just a oxidized contact within a connector.....Farken nightmare....

Yep they can be a PITA... But keep at it..somewhere there is an answer. Does your shop offer a warranty? Take it back and tell him it didn't work. The cruise is cool. Just push the cruise on button then you'll see and LED right next to it light up. Then once your over 25 MPH it will become active. Then go to your speed you want and push the bottom button "SET", and you on Cruise. To go up in speed 4 miles per hour..pust the top button that says resume 4 times. It will take you up in speed 4 MPH over you current speed.

To go down in speed ....press the "SET BUTTON" at the bottom the same way to go down in speed. In other words for every 1 press = 1 MPH.

Far to the right there is a CANCEL button that turns Cruise off without hitting the brakes.

Look in your manual I think it's page 3-12. If not it's in the rear index under "C"

Have fun... Cruise is fun and Cool,,

Bulb issues are on the top of the list. I know its not the same thing but back when I purchased my 05 the cruise would not work at all. No codes, nothing to go on. Push button nothing happens.

After spending a great deal of time I found that someone the previous owner had switched out the rear lights with led bulbs I really didn't think much about it at the time but a friend that worked on GM had recently told me he screwed up his cruise control on his Silverado by just replacing tail light bulbs with leds.

So I said, what the heck lets take a look, had wifey hit the brakes and sure enough I could tell they were leds. I even noticed one was brighter than the other. So, I replaced them both and bingo, the cruise now worked but intermittently. I decided to pull out the bulbs again because one of the sockets looked kind of crappy and had corrosion and I noticed that one bulb seem brighter than the other again like with the leds. I decided to replace that socket, re-installed a factory correct bulb back in and mystery solved! Cruise worked perfectly! I thanked my friend because this one had me scratching my head. I now know the BCM monitors current draw in a number of circuits. Considering my experience, personally anything that has to do with the brake circuit is a good place to start. Happy hunting!

Thanks SUT Man,

I'll give it a shot.... I do remember once turning on the wipers or something that caused an electrical draw and the cruise went off. Your right the BCM monitors anything for a current draw over XX Current. I'll go out and check my tail lights now.. "I'll Be BacK"

I'm Back... What I forget is.. the red lens below the Stop light lens is not lit? With the brakes on and the headlights on that Lens below the stop light lens is not lit at any point. The Bumper Brake lamps are on with the top Lens Brake lights and the third eye. But the one below never lights up? Also notice I have installed two L.E.D.s in the tire cover. They are tied to the running lights (Not Brake Lights.)

Power to run the L E D s is drawn from the 30 amp cig socket in the rear. The relay coil is energized by the running lights which closes the contacts and draws power from the rear Cig lighter/ tire inflator plug. That coil is very low current.

So WTF are those lens that don't light? Reflectors....Cruise always worked after I mod-ed the L E D s in the tire cover.. Splain me... EDIT:.....................
Ok I'm a Dumb AZZ.... Those Lens are the Turn signal Flashers. They only come on when you hit the turn signal stalk...What a Dum AZZ ,,(Me)
