Cooling issue

The transcooler is a good idea like I meantioned before.
The reason is not because it gets rusty, its because the plastic end caps you see on the radiator also house lines for the coolant to go into, along with the transmission fluid.
So that radiator sees alot of heat...and the plastic end caps see alot of heat, and when the internals of that cap/radiator setup fail, it cracks and it starts to let coolant into the transmission fluid. then the trans get that coolant into the system and locks it up. instantly a new trans for about 1000-3000.
so it is insurance. now alot of people state it has happened to them in areas that get extreme cold (like NY), but that doesnt mean I didnt have mine done here in MS (and guess what, after the bypass... a few months later... i had a crack). luckyly i already did the by pass.
as for the by pass, i did the by pass and my trans temps went way down and my truck usually runs normally at 200-210 all day long with the 100 degree weather and the 70 percent humidity here.
so just a thought
and as i suggested before.... a 165 or 185 thermo wont hurt :-P
btw, are you in the NY PD?
if so good job. my father and grand father were. grandfather was very decorated and well known.... possibly still but i doubt it since he retired like 30-40 years ago

From your 1st post it sounds like this is a new thing with your H2. Maybe the ac compressor is on its way out and it's putting more drag on the engine these days.
As for the tru cool cooler, it's a must have. We use our H2 to tow with and couldn't get out of the driveway w/o the engine and tranny running hot. Now w/ the larger tranny cooler the tranny never gets above 180 and the engine only sees 235 when I'm going up a hill at 4000 rpms while towing.

@mulepic - it is a new thing its never had this up until 2-3 weeks ago. the a/c compressor is a year old so i doubt its that. yea i know the tru cool is an awesome unit i had it on my old truck. thing worked great im gonna wind up getting another one for this truck to prolong the trans life. the trans usually runs a hair under 200 or around 200 which is supposed to be normal according to GM. ive got some experience in failing 4l60/65s and i can say these transmissions do not like that kind of heat. ive seen internals of transmissions that were run hot 200-220~ a lot. the heat really kills these things.
@jsbihn - so your saying that the plastic end cap on the little ****ty trans cooler cracks and spills trans fluid onto the radiator? or the radiator end caps fail? there is no fluid coming out anywhere. is this just H2 specific? ive owned a bunch of GM trucks that had much more mileage than this thing never once had an issue with cooling.
Yes i am in the PD its a very interesting job to say the least. thats awesome there are lots of guys otj who follow in the families footsteps with this job.
