Default Catalytic converter shield or cover?

Hey all, considering a 2007 H2 in nice shape but the catalytic converter theft in my area is insane.

Does anyone sell a shield or cover or armor for the cats?

Initially I heard "you don't need it because they're up in the engine bay".... Not the case. I need armor to live in my area!

Any suggestions?

Kimber .45 is my theft deterrent.
Seriously though, I don't think anyone makes one specific to the H2

Thanks, that seemed to be my conclusion as well.

Easy to make a catalytic converter alarm.

Just make the cat the negative (ground) circuit. If removed, wire is ripped off, circuit breaks, throws a relay which completes (energizes) the alarm circuit. Alarm sounds. Burglar runs. With or without 1 cat.

Better yet, to activate with less damage (upon 1 cut only) and save both cats, run the circuit through the front AND back of the cat. i.e. connection is on tail pipe before cat and tail pipe after cat. If one cut is made, circuit continuity breaks, trips relay, and sounds alarm.

So easy peasy.

If u do not know how to do that, ask an auto electric shop. It is very very basic.

How? Just Weld tac or just clamp the wire on the exhaust pipe. On both sides of vehicle, as you have 2 cats. U will need more than 1 relay to accomplish this. Draw out your wiring diagram before u start.

@Oceanbrave on this forum ( who lives on some obscure island in the north pacific) is an electrical wizard, and may know how to guide u if you ask politely and send him free Hummer parts.

you realize the the whole chassis, engine and exhaust are grounds right? your plan is destined for failure. you would have to make sure the exhaust is not touching anything metal other then the exhaust manifolds and sensors and the rubber hanging isolators are not bypassed with welds. then maybe if you used the tail pipe as a trigger for when the exhaust is cut and breaks the ground path then maybe it might work.

@bronxteck ”you realize the the whole chassis, engine and exhaust are grounds right?“

Yes I do.
D’oh! I was wrong and did not think this thru on the second option.

But my first option will still work. Broken ground wire from cat upon removing first cat will trip alarm.

I think just lowering my comprehensive deductible is the most cost effective option heh
