Mounted a set of Bully universal steps to my factory rock sliders.

I used two 2" 5/16 round ubolts and put a piece of fuel line over each ubolt to give them some traction. They fit perfectly over the inner tube like this.
The steps have existing holes that are spaced perfect for the ubolts but need to be drilled out to 5/16 and the angle of the bottom hole needs to be made parallel to the footrest. Super easy when drilling it out as its just aluminum. I did it with a cordless drill.



Mounted the steps against one of the slider supports then used the existing hole in the support to guide and drill a hole through the step backing plate to keep it from twisting. I even used the nut and bolts from the tube steps I removed. You could easily add a second bolt on the back side but theres about a 3/4" gap so you would need a spacer. You can probabaly use the spacers that came off the factory tube steps. Its very solid as is though.
Hit the hardware with some rattle can truck bed liner that matches the step finish.

Just wanted to share. About $50 investment and and hour of time vs. $400+ for sliders with steps. I only wanted front steps so this is better for me. These also dont stick out very far which is what I wanted. Wife can now get in and out.

It looks like it was made for your rig. Great job! I just installed some CARR side steps on my 79 GMC k20. The CARR steps are still made in the USA and very high quality.

 

That Rig is awesome, Is there a lift in it? , could you post the specs on it, I think that look is great , Tire size, etc

 

Looks nice and clean. Do what works for you and what satisfies your needs. This is going to be one of my projects as well. Deciding what to install on our truck.

Whats left of our side steps. One bracket saved as a souvenir lol it was totally rusted out. It was a pain tonget these brackets out, 4 or 5 per side.
