Hummer H2For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.
I am considering doing the the "Truck Norris cam swap or similar cam along with swapping out my factory heads with 243's. This will be a do it myself build, pretty easy.
Question, has anyone done anything similar, besides supercharging? I would like to keep this budget friendly with a 75+/- horsepower increase. Living in a suburb of Denver, we can only get 91 octane here, and I am an avid mountain driver (skiing, etc) and this h2 is not exactly a powerhouse.
I rebuilt my 2009 6.2 with many new parts, all bearings, seals. It is rect port so I can’t speak to performance you should expect on yours but I also did my own tuning so I’m squeezing out all I can from mine. Biggest problem I had was keeping any semblance of a budget because as I got into it I found that things needed to be replaced to make the build work. I reused pistons, rods, and rings, and rockers but got new trunions, push rods, lifters, springs, keepers. Reused valves too. All gaskets got replaced, also swapped to non VVT cam gears and other things needed for that. The most important thing is tuning in my opinion but I had the hardware and software to do that already. I think I spent around 4k all told including lots of cleaning supplies to make it all like new. Best of luck to you.
I'll bet yours drives totally different being cammed. You can sleep better knowing the DOD is gone as well.
I'm going to leave my bottom end where its at for the time being. top end rebuild/upgrade is my main focus. Will include somewhere around a .585 lift cam, Ls7 lifters, trays, rocker trunnion kit, Timing chain, oil pump, hardened pushrods, springs, 3 angle valve job, 243 heads (which have a smaller combustion chamber.......adds a little compression). New water pump and aluminum radiator while I'm in there. May consider an electric fan set up and ditch the mechanical fan.
Drives quick and effortlessly. Very different than stock, feels lightweight on the road now. It never had DOD being a L9H engine but I did remove the VVT so less complicated now. It idles just a tad rough but not annoying. That is just a small price to pay for the power.
The motor was pretty dirty and original cam bearings were shot so I also replaced all bottom end bearings and it was worth it to do as they were a little loose, especially number 1 and 3 main bearings. Not much more to do the lower end if things are already apart.
When I had my 05 I purchased a GM long block, some 450hp Z06 engine then swapped the cam for a BTR low lift and 243 heads along with a proper TBSS intake. It was a rowdy thing to say the least. I eneded up also needing a stall converter so I got one from a Trail Blazer SS and it was happy. It would smoke all 4 tires from a dead stop.
You might be able to find my build here. I still talk to the people that I sold it to and it is still running strong as ever.
If I had #32,000.00 this is what I would drop in. Imagine all the fun you can have when you mash the pedal. Of course,I don';t know how the 6L80E would like this motor...LMAO

you’d probably end up in the hospital picking torque converter out of your teeth
For some reason Copy works but paste won't work??? Does not come up on the right click????? It works on other sites....Anyone else having Problems. Try it do a copy than try to paste.
Dropped the Hummer off 3 days ago to the speed shop for the cam & head swap.
I purchased a used set of 243 heads, had them rebuilt with manley racing valves, BTR .620 beehive springs, LS1 rocker arms with upgraded trunnions, heads had a mild port job, blended all the bowls/
Went with Richard Holdeners "Low Buck Truck" camshaft, .552/552 212/22* DEG 107 LSA. This is the exact same camshaft ground as the BTR "Truck Norris" at a 3rd of the price.
The shop doing all my upgrades is also a top tuning company here in the Denver area. Was planning on doing this all on my own, but decided to just go with professionals to avoid any problems and save my back some pain.
