Default Broken H2 Roof-Rail **** - HELP!

Hi all,

I've got a dilly of a pickle of a problem fellas. My middle cross-bar is stuck, the **** was snapped off the right hand side mount when I bought it, and now I want to install my shiny new GOBI rack, but I need to get these damn cross-bars off! Any ideas on how I can go about removing it? The **** is completely gone, I looked in the little hole where the screw attached to the **** was and it looks like it sheared off completely, and it's tightened as tight as it can get!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Default possible solution

You might want to try drilling out the screw.

This is an old mechanics trick/tip................

Start with a small drill bit and drill at the center of the broken screw slowly then work your way up to a larger drill bit and repeat this process until you reach the size that just about fits the hole that the broken off screw/bolt is stuck in.

You can go to the nearest automotive shop or home improvement store and purchase a tap & die set to removed the stripped bolt.

I have a couple of Kobalt tap & die sets that I used to remove stripped bolts on home remodeling and automotive when needed.

Drilling it is going to be a pain in the *** but the only way to do it cheap without breaking anything else. a tap and die set is going to cost you. They also make a bolt removal set where you would drill a small hole in the broken stud. the removal piece is reverse threaded and conical shaped so it will bite into the inside of the stud and back it out.

Default drilling

I believe that was the same thing I was suggesting.
