Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Anyone convert head unit to 9" in an 08-09 H2?

Default Anyone convert head unit to 9" in an 08-09 H2?

I see a trim piece available on ebay to convert the opening on an 08-09 H2 to allow a 9" head unit compared to the factory 7". I only see it available with the purchase of an android head unit and I wanted to go with a pioneer or something higher quality. ANyone know where I can buy the trim piece alone? if not has anyone used this head unit (there are several on ebay with the wider opening in the trim piece)?

Not a big fan of the floating screen. I prefer the "built in" look

Thanks

Please post a photo of the product. I see one listed that appears to have a remanufactured plastic trim piece to fit the larger android LCD. The piece and the LCD are integrated, and I don't believe you could use this trim variant with a headhunt from an established manufacturer. If you go to Crutchfield or other site, and see manufacturers that support the Hummer H2, all are 7 inch units or have a floating display.

* It is unclear to me what they recommend you do with the air vents... they are integrated to the OEM dash trim, and they appear to be missing from their piece. Either they want you to remove them from your existing trim, or go without. I have my trim here in my hands, and while most of the vent mounts are glued, and the glue can be relatively easily removed, there are four plastic welds that hold the vents in place that I am not sure how you would get those off without cutting. Not only is the trim unobtainable, but those vents are impossible to replace if something goes wrong. Any OEM trim that appears on eBay are very expensive with one currently listed for $1966. I would not recommend modifying your OEM trim.

I agree with you and also question the android quality vs nearly every other manufacturer of real audio products (Sony, Pioneer, etc.). I have the Pioneer 4600NEX with a 6.8" screen and it integrated perfectly and has been very stable.

I think your real options are to go with a 7 inch screen that fits... or go with a double DIN unit with floating display from an established manufacturer...

Do you know for sure that that the screen and the trim are inseparable? The ones I saw were not so expensive that I would not be able to remove and replace the screen. As far as the plastic welds, these are easy to drill out and I have experience with making new plastic welds...
Thanks for the involved post with pictures though. I appreciate your replay.
