There is no right or wrong system, it's just down to personal taste.

 

Found a Tech2 and scanned and got a error code of 5V @ left height sensor. Ordered one off Amazon for $60 CAD.
FINALLY had a day I felt not like death (on disability) and replaced sensor, started her up and BOOM! It worked, compressor came on and lifted truck right up
NO calibration required
NO reset of computers
Works great and extended height works perfect as well.
Fun fact, I didnt remove the tire, lift the truck or anything, was very easy (only 3 bolts) and only took about 15mins.
Took me more time to find the correct wrench and sockets and evaluate the situation than the actual repair.
Dont give up on your air suspension too quick! (famous last words)

 

Ah so my "On a long-shot, inspect the left+right height-sensors" was correct, interesting to know and glad you've fixed it.
