2006 H2 - Rear Wheel Drive Only Conversion
Has anyone out there done or know how to modify the torque converter (or switch it out) so that I have a switch which disengauges the front drive shaft so I would be running rear-wheel drive only? I'm looking for this for a number of reasons:
1) improved fuel economy when I don't need the front pulling or off-roading
2) less stress on the tranny when I'm stomping on the gas
3) going to keep upping the performance until I can get them squealing
Thanks,
Rick

that all has to do with your transfer case not torque converter. I know with the diesel conversions they can be user selectable.
I know for me when I get the "Service 4x4" message the truck feels more sluggish due to the front wheels not pulling. With as heavy of a vehicle the 2's are I wouldn't want rear only drive.....unless of course I had a Durmax in the SOB!

I'm sure you can use parts of the drivetrain from a 2500. They have a selectable 4wd with 2HI 4HI & 4LO. I think transfer case bolts right up(with driveshaft modifications) but you would probably have problems with the computer. I think one of the reasons that the Duramax conversion comes with the selectable 4wd and not an option for the selectable AWD is that the computer is probably a pain to get to work with the Duramax. The Borge Warner AWD transfer case on the H2 has a direct drive chain that is either in HI or LO. It would need to have some kind of Neutral gear arrangement in it to give you a 2HI option. There is a company out there that makes this transfer case but it is for the H1 that is that its selectable 2HI 4HI 4LO & AWD. I would like to see this for the H2.
