Default 07 H2 Electrical problems

Hello everyone, I was hoping for a possible answer or direction to head in before I pull my hair out. A while back, I started my H2 and the radio comes on, its an aftermarket pioneer, and the all of the sudden turns off, then comes back on with the chime and all the lights on the 4x4 and t/c panels flash and everything worked for a few minutes then did it again and again until i parked it. Turned off key and got out and all the lights stayed on and the radio. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to shut off. I decided to mess with it more, and it kept doing the same thing. Now the radio doesn't turn on at all and no chimes. I know they come through the radio and amp. So I pulled the head unit, and checked for power and am not getting anything to the radio. I did have the typical water leaks, but have since fixed them. I installed a new battery today and checked all the fuses with a multi meter. I'm leaning toward a bad BCM, or corroded connectors on it or the sp205. Any thoughts? I'm not a big fan of throwing $ at something unless I know it's going to help. Also checked with innova scan tool and there is no communication to the radio or amp. Thanks for any input. Metal

Really hard to TS electrical problems from afar, esp when it involves non-standard aftermarket equipment, potential water damage etc. So, when you say "I decided to mess with it more, and it kept doing the same thing", did you mean it stayed on continuously or now it doesn't work at all? I suspect you mean the latter as you also indicate no power to the radio. So, do you need schematics of the original sound system so you can track the power issue? Since we don't know the 'what/where' of the water issues, I'd not want to blame the BCM right off due to it's location. Sounds more like the aftermarket head unit, canbus installed (if one was) or original amp. Also would help to know which system the vehicle had to start - the standard or upgrade BOSE system. If the latter it can be the amp under the console.

Also - is everything else working as it should? No problems starting, running, AC etc are all ok? Only the radio/chime system is bad?

Direction I would head first would be to check the power path with a VOM where I could (limited I know). Then I would pull all the left/center dash and console box (if yours has the amp under there) panels and start tracking all related wiring point to point. You might want to start where you were "messing" with it when you lost all power. Only way I know of to TS electrical issues is by following the schematic with a VOM. Other than a visual of wiring and connectors for bad/broken/cut/charred wiring or loose/corroded connectors.

One more afterthought....many aftermarket radio connectors have a main power fuse near the connector which is now sitting behind the radio. So even if the main radio fuse at the fuse block is ok, the one sitting behind the radio (if installed) could be blown. Gonna have to pull the dash/radio and expose all wiring to know.

could be a bad metra or pax radio interface module for the aftermarket radio. put the stock radio back in to verify if the issue persists.
those modules do come bad even being new. check the online revues. many complaints.

Thanks for the input guys, I tore the dash out today and traced the wires. One plug on the bcm wasn't seated all the way, but I found the problem, When whoever had it before me put the radio in, they left a belly of wires hanging slightly below the dash near the brake pedal, me, having size 17 feet, must have hooked them and broke the power wire, but got it figured out, now tomorrow clean up the "professionals" job and reassemble!

Excellent. Good to hear you got it. Good time to look at any/all other previous PO/shop work done "behind the scenes" and ensure it's correctly bundled, connected and safe from chafing.
Enjoy the ride....,

That's the plan. I can't believe people just hacking stuff together, I've never understood that, but oh well it's solved. Thanks again
