Default 05 Hummer H2 Driver Door Panel Lighting Issue

Hi guys,

I just realized today that my driver door panel is having an electrical issue with the ambient lighting on any of the buttons. Everything functions perfectly when you push on the buttons like normal but the lights were flickering on every single button on that door panel. I went to check on it again and it’s now completely off. No lights are powering on at all. All the other door panels and ambient lights throughout the truck works perfectly with no problems. Included in this post is a video of the flickering. Any idea’s on what may cause this?

Apologies can't seem to find a web-link to your video.

Also are you specifically referring to Drivers Door Module?

Default Update on driver door issue

Sorry about that, for some odd reason it didn’t include my video. Yes, I am talking about the driver control module on the door panel. This includes the two panels with the following (Lock/Unlock, Power Windows, Power Fold/Mirror Adjustment, Heated Seats, & 4 Window Roll Up/Down Quick Command) I have discovered that it’s gotten worse. There must be a short somewhere in the door because it’s interfering with the whole system. It got so bad that it is almost like watching an exorcism occurring. All my dome lights are flickering and all 4 windows are rolling up and down. So I’m assuming there’s a short somewhere in the driver door. So far i unplugged the harness to the door and there’s no problems at the moment! 🤞 Is the driver door connected by a whole harness that can be replaced? Would it be easier to buy another harness? Or should I trace the short?

the door harness can get intermittent from breaks in the section where it flexes between the door and body. inside the rubber accordion tube. or in that vicinity
also the connectors to the modules or at the b-pillar from corrosion.
the roof b-pillar corner light can let water into the b-pillar post and run down to the connector.
the window switch can also get wet from leaking at the roof / body weatherstrip being loose at the corner of the windshield post meets the roof.

Not sure why the dome lights flicker, could be power window related.

The electronic DDM controls the following:-
  • Button LEDs
  • Global Windows Up/Down and individual windows
  • Heated seat switches and LEDs
  • Left mirror fold and mirror pan & tilt
i.e. almost all the symptoms you mentioned. The module links via Class2 Serial Comms to the BCM to effectively control all windows and door locks.

A break in the harness could be responsible or damp getting inside the module and sending the electronics haywire.

Seen several modules with badly corroded tracks, effectively scrapping them, but if yours has got damp and dried out you could be lucky.

The module easily pops-out and it can be opened-up and inspected (if your brave) it might be worth drying it out in a warm place then finding the source of the damp.
