Question Humvee H1 Slant back Insurance - Who Insurance them

Hi Guys,

I purchased a 2002 military H1 Slantback. I am trying to get insurance on it and no one seems to want to do it.

I have tried the following:
  • USAA
  • Progressive
  • Geico

All of the said the payload capacity over a ton was not acceptable risk to them. They could not insurance it.

What insurance companies do you go through? I read other post and USAA and Progressive worked.

State Farm, they even insure my armored vehicles. USAA has gotten progressively worse ( no pun intended ) USAA sent me to Progressive for our Freightliner Sport Chassis trucks ( used for hauling horses, hay, equipment, etc ) I was told they don't insure anything over a one ton truck now because the tow ratings have gotten so high. I am a 40 year USAA member and they won't even insure my house because I live in the country and some BS about the land being worth so much more than the house. They used to insure my exotic cars but I am not sure they even do that anymore. They do insure my civilian H1 trucks and my Scorpion so go figure.

I contacted a local state farm agent in TN and the guy was worthless. I told him over and over again the VIN # is shorter than normal that it is not 17 digits. He could not get it through his head. Kept saying the system wont take the VIN# I gave him. Of course it wont it is not 17 digits.

What did you guys do to get past this VIN#?

Consider yourself lucky! Or I am unlucky SOB. In the end I finally got insurance. What I learned was it depends on the agent you have. If they are lazy or not. I worked with 4 different insurance agents and 3 out of the 4 worthless as a penny.

The odd thing was one of the brokers contacted Progressive and denied me. Then another went with Progressive and that is the one where I got approved at.

I guess I may have been lucky. I got Ed's name from another guy that was into armored vehicles. He had no problem getting me insurance on a number of toys that most people wouldn't have even known how to start on. Tanks, armored recon, vehicles, up-armored HMMWV....I think Ed could get anything insured.
