The other vortec 8100 H1. They were called Alphas when to company rolled them of the line in 2002 (2001-2002?). So they were kind of the first H1 Alpha.

I think most did, that is why the Alphas needed the 2" lift.

Interesting... just some of my thoughts... We used the body lift to clear the intake manifold which was very very tight. The other possible benefit was to make a little extra room for passenger side exhaust. We had no issues (yet) with anything on bottom side of motor. (Mentioned earlier that front needed accessories moved around on front of motor.)

i believe the duramax needed the body lift for clearing exhaust/turbo...

Next unknown for me is calling Howell engine development and see how extensive of a engine wiring harness that they will make for me. I have someone with ability to make harness but will be much cleaner if Howell will do it. So if anyone has any friends there would love a good contact...

it is funny... Have gotten a lot done in last month but everything looks the same. Just a reminder how much there is to do in a swap like this. I think wiring will be very last thing we do but still the most scary. Current getting finishing touches on steer power steering lines. New fuel lines and pump. New shift linkages. Etc...

I am thinking of doing this swap on my 1999 HMC4, and any help is highly appreciated.
I've got a couple of questions:
- Is it feasible to do this conversion, without removing the body off of the frame, and without a body lift?
- I can still use my original 4L80E and torque converter?
- The 8.1 is out of a 2003 vehicle, can I still use the original H1's electric throttle pedal?
- Are there any special requirements that i should ask for from the company that is supplying my harness and ecu?

Once all the picture is clear I am going to create a thread ans start the conversion.

Thank you.

I know its an ancient thread.. Thank you for posting up the work you've done so far its helpful as I go about the same swap.

What I've taken so far,
- Utilized the H1 Transfer Case and Trans mounts
- Needs P/S lines, Fuel Lines, possible steering linkage / shift linkage
- Needs wiring harness made / remade

Looks like an alright swap as it concerns physically getting that engine into the bay... the challenge is as with any swap... getting the electricals and plumbing done right.

How'd it turn out in the end? What were the key bits now its done? Hoping you succeeded.
