Default Hummer H1 to 8.1 motor swap

I am attempting to post my first post in a forum (have never tried before). I am in the middle of a swap on my 98 Hummer H1. I have done a lot of research online on this swap and I have found very little info. This has lead me to attempt this thread. Any advice anyone wants to give me is welcomed. I will be posting pics and info as I learn how.

I am currently at the point where motor is mounted in vehicle and working out the details. Motor/tranny (8.1/4L85E) came out of a 2005 Avalanche 2500 4x4. 50,000 miles. I was able to take anything I wanted out of vehicle so grabbed all that I thought that I might need. Plan to post all that was useful or not.

L18 8.1L swap resource thread - CK5 Forums
This thread has been one of my biggest assets in swap so far. Larry at coloradok5 is a huge library of knowledge. This and a handful of extremely smart friends the project is moving along nicely.

Interesting. What mods are you having to make for it to fit?

Did 2 inch body lift to give extra clearance under windshield. Used factory motor mounts which kept trans/tcase in factory location. Switched front end of motor to a GM topkick configuration. So far so good. Need to call Howell to see if they will build me a complete wiring harness...

Not bad. You have oil pan clearance, etc all figured out by now. First swap of an 8.1 into an H1 that I have heard of.

AMG did 3 vortech 8100 from factory. (Supposedly Arnold Swartz got one of them). I had tried to locate info online with no luck. The above thread from coloradok5 was the biggest help I could find online. As far as I know we had zero oilpan issues using factory oilpan. The is no way that Avalanche accessory configuration would have worked (unless you just deleted AC compressor.
