I've changed my plate for the 4th time previously unavailable plates, however before changing to the current HVMMER, I sent a request to review HUMMER.
Here's their response:
Previously denied Plate (HUMMER)
This is in reference to your internet specialty license plate transaction. The Special Plate Committee reviewed your request, and it was denied due to the potential perception of inappropriateness. Therefore, we are unable to release the selection for purchase.
The BMV rejects any special license plate that contains words, combinations, and/or phrases (in any language, whether frontwards or backwards) that:
1. Are profane (that is, swearwords or expletives), or can be interpreted as obscene, sexually explicit, or scatological (i.e., pertaining to feces or excrement).
2. Are so offensive that they could reasonably be expected to provoke a violent response from viewers without additional comment.
3. Advocate immediate lawlessness or advocate lawless activities.
HummerZ I feel your pain, I asked New Mexico for a vanity Hummer tag and was rejected a number of times saying "Hummer was obscene an suggestive thus they denied it. I was rejected 4 times over a 5 year period.
I had a friend of mine who is an attorney who wrote a letter to the DMV saying unless my request was approved it would be actionable and then miraculously it was finally granted.
You have to remember New Mexico is as blue so it's expected, it surprises the DMV in Ohio has that blue attitude. There reasons for their dismissal are ridiculous considering it was a major vehicle brand, it's amazing how things have changed.
I know in the world of things this is really not that important but even little rights that get trampled by those in power need to be challenged sometimes. Best of luck, stay strong!
No pain, just not liking the V on the plate. I just replied to the email with "The Special Plate Committee" asking for a further explanation reason for denial! Hello Jacob, I'm confused as to why HUMMER was denied? I currently drive a 2007 HUMMER H3 and looking to purchase another HUMMER to drive. My previous plates were approved as my current plate that I received today.
Can you please further explain what is inappropriate with having H+U+M+M+E+R on my plate for my GMC HUMMER? Please Advise,
JAKE the "customer service assistant #2" replied to my email only highlighting the previous response.

Just to be clear, my HUMMER vehicle that I drive is NOT profane, nor the previous plates I paid $HUNDREDS$ extra over the years to put on my HUMMER(HUMMERZ, 3HUMMER, HUMMER3) are not profane, ONLY HUMMER ALONE? PLEASE ADVISE AS TO WHY THIS IS, Thanks in advance.
