Default Ford recall for cracked fuel injectors - let's add a drain tube!

Ford recall on Broncos, Escapes over fuel leak, engine fire risk prompt feds to open probe
What is Ford thinking!? So much for the CEO's quality improvement program. I'm sure there can't be any side-effect of draining fuel below the engine ... (But, hey, you get a free ECM update!) And shame on NTHSA for allowing it.

(emphasis mine)
"According to the federal investigation announcement, owners can take their vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to have a drain tube installed in the vehicle at no cost. The remedy also includes a free engine control software update to detect a pressure drop in the fuel injection system, the federal regulator reported. Should that occur, the software will disable the high pressure fuel pump, reduce engine power and cut temps in the engine compartment. Owners also will get a "seek service" message, documents show.

But according to safety regulators, the automakers remedy enables fuel to drain from a cylinder head hole to the ground below the vehicle.

"The recall remedy does not include replacement of the cracked fuel injector," NTHSA wrote."

that recall is not for the ford bronco it is for the bronco sport which is just a rebadged ford escape.
we have one of those bronco sports as a shop vehicle. it has spent most of its life in some sort of recall limbo for months at a time. this time we've just got it back finally last month since last october when we dropped it off for service. for some reason they had to replace the motor because of a transmission issue? idk how that makes sense but it is ford we are talking about.

The recall situation affecting some Ford Bronco Sport owners is certainly unsettling. No one looks forward to ongoing repairs or replacement work, especially of major components like engines. While defects can occur with even the most well-intentioned designs, the consumer impact is what really matters. Repeated issues over an extended time frame tend to cause the most frustration. It's important for brands to take customer satisfaction and safety extremely seriously in these situations. Swift, transparent communication and an efficient resolution process mean everything. Car buyers need to feel confident their vehicles are reliable, and any problems will be handled properly. The long-term reputation of the company depends on how situations like this are managed as well.
