Default REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT?

WILL DRIVING WITHOUT THE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT CAUSE HARM TO THE FONT AXLE OR TRANSFER CASE? I HAD TO REMOVE IT FOR A SHORT PERIOD AND THE H2 SEEMED TO RIDE SMOOTHER.

Removed front shaft on my H3 for 20 miles with no apparent damage....had to engage the 4wheel lock on the transfer case,otherwise all the power would go to the disconnected axle.
