Oil Pressure Sending Unit

Oil Pressure Sending Unit
I found that my Oil pressure sending unit is bad. Before I start my H2, the gauge is at 0. When I start the H2 the gauge pegs at 80 and goes back to 0 when I shut it off. From what I understand that means the stepping motor is working and the problem is most likely a short in the oil pressure sending unit. Am I correct in my thinking?
I purchased a new oil pressure sending unit and am going to replace it on Saturday morning. I am only 5'7 and the sending unit is at the back side of the motor just under the fire wall. I know I need to remove the Vortec cover and use a 1 1/16 deep socket to get the oil pressure sending unit out after I remove the cable from it.
My question is this: What is the easiest way for me to do this being a little on the short side?

It looks to be more on the driver side just behind the upper intake mani. Use a deep well socket and you should be able to get it off. That's just looking at pics, I haven't actually removed one before....

When you purchase the oil pressure sending unit, ask the parts store to sell you the correct oil pressure sending unit socket. It will make it much easier and they are not very expensive. The stepper motor you refer to is in the dash. if replacing the OPS doesn't fix your problem then you must go into the dash for repair or replacement.
