High Mileage Trans Problems?

High Mileage Trans Problems?
Looking for some suggestions as I've only seen bits and pieces of what some have done here already.
Here's my story...
At about 85k I had to have the transfercase replaced along with the seal that goes around the shift linkage that comes out of the transmission. Both started to pour oil out, killed the transfer case gearing but fortunately the trans was ok.
Now a few weeks ago, the same seal started leaking along with the gasket between the transfer case and trans. This time they replaced the linkage and the seal on the trans to attempt to fix the problem.
Well it hasn't! Oil still leaks out of the linkage and then I went to pull into a gas station and upon shifting into gear my shifter got stuck in Park and my trans said it was neutral.
So now the cable needs to be replaced and the dealership says that the only way to fix the oil problem because there's nothing else to replace except for the entire trans. They want to charge me $4k to do that. I know you can get a remanufactured/rebuilt trans for about $1k.
My question is since I'm going to have to replace the trans, does anyone know of a shop in Southern California that could swap the trans for a 2009 6 speed? Also so I could have Non All time 4X4....
Im at 100k now on the truck so even just a great trans shop would be great.
Thanks,
Mike

Not sure about the 6 speed but call Mike at Bensons transmission in Bloomington Ca. You wont find a more honest high quality transmission shop to repair or rebuild your tranny. Tell him Calif Phil referred you.

I wouldn't rebuild the stock unit. Put in a real truck tranny - 4l80. You would have to find a stand alone module to run that newer 6 speed. You're not going to get anything out of 2wd when the hubs don't unlock and you are still turning all the front drivetrain.
