Default Buying an 05-07 H2 with 80,000+ miles: What to look for?!?

Hi all,

I'm looking to buy my first Hummer H2 and I'm sticking to the 05-07 models for what I've learned so far are better build quality & reliability and price - I just can't afford an 08 or 09.

I've found several in the $20k range and I want to make a move on one in the next 2 weeks, but they have mileage in the range of 80-90,000 miles. I'm concerned about buying one and having problems with it.

What do I need to look for?

From what I gather, I need to find out if scheduled maintenance was done, documented, and who did the work. I need to make sure all the fluids were changed and changed properly.

What else do I need to be on the look out for???

Any and all advice will be very helpful. I'm upgrading from an 05 Chrysler 300 Limited that was fully loaded, so I'm going to miss the nicer interior, but plan on putting some money into the H2 to dress it up a little bit - paint the dash or apply an overlay, add some chrome, maybe a custom steering wheel and gauges, plus the new Pioneer navigation. What I'd love to do is find a way to replace the entire center stack with an iPad that could control all of the HVAC/additional controls. Any thoughts or things you've seen that remove the OnStar, etc???

Thanks in advance!

- Matt

I would not rule out a 2003-04 H2. My 03 H2 was every bit as good as my 06 H2 is.

Bump. About to pull the trigger on an 07 black-on-black H2 with lots of chrome, navi, headrest screens...but with 91,000 miles for $24k.

What should I ask about the maintenance history? What should I look for that could signal a potential major problem in the near future?!?

I'm excited, but don't want to be stupid and miss something easy. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Definitely drive it to a local mechanics shop to have it looked at. Have the ball joints checked, make sure the passenger air bag is turned on without fault codes, Make sure the shocks arent beat to $hit, make sure the 4wd transfer case operates correctly (make sure that the 4wd switches right over at the flick of a button) and drives without faults. If there are roof racks be sure to get the key that goes to them so they can be moved. Good luck with the gas tab.
