Hummer H2 For those who like a little more gleam to their Hummer, the H2 offers a similar rugged look as the H1, but as a lower cost, and with more added features, making it almost a massive luxury SUV.

Best brake upgrades under $2500?

Edit: yes that though, I need technical guys where are they hiding... I came back to forums because social media grouos are flooded with little kids, drama, and literally incorrect misinformation about whatever platform, like theyll casually say some **** and change the course of a build by tens of thousands of dollars because they wanna feel cool for three seconds for clout dopamine...

And of course they all, everyone, has the exact same eBay/Amazon shopping cart build with XYZ kryptonite parts (expensive and basically stock) and trashcan wheels with 35 series mud terrains and a stock engine they put a cam in *max* lol

Im real sick of the people on the internet these days. I came from the SVT infosphere where youre literally shooting the **** with actual ford engineers. You say "hey what was the internal motivation for doing xyz seemingly idiotic thing” and you get a reply either explaining or saying "bean counters"

You can easily do the kinda stuff Im trying to like that. I've read stuff online obviously written by these types but it seems to predate social media and forums?

Which is weird. In 1996 ford engineers were on forums hanging out chatting

In 2003 GM engineers were basically hosting angel fire personal web pages still lolololol

THAT is why I think we, as a community, are having issues ..

Boomer engineers couldnt internet in the Aughts 🤣

Fair enough, as my last name starts with a W, I'll sit in the back of the class you're teaching and wait for you to develop and sell a brake kit that rivals the newer GMC/Chevy. Glad you added to this post about the 2022 Silverado brakes, now my OCD is in overdrive again.

Now I'm back to the Wilwood website where they do offer the 6 piston calipers complete brake kit
https://www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/Br...&option=Luxury

A little pricey at about $3600 with new brake lines, but I dont see a better option out there. I'm not crazy about spending that kind of money for aftermarket brakes but, after $20,0000 in engine build and Supercharger, not to mention I'm running 37's on 09 H2 20" H2 wheels, which is a lot of rotating mass, my powerstop set-up just seems outdated/underperforming. Haven't driven it yet with the supercharger, but I foresee where I need and want the upgraded braking. Reading through the Wilwood website, they have several good benefits to think about:C6R Big Brake Truck Front Brake Kit

TC6R calipers are purpose built to provide unsurpassed braking capacity on trucks and SUV’s upgraded to larger than stock wheels. TC6R kits can fit many 20”and larger wheels (Verify your wheel interior clearance to the wheel clearance diagram in the installation instructions before purchase). Combining the high clamping efficiency of the TC6R caliper with 16” diameter directional vane rotors and high friction BP-10 compound brake pads, TC6R kits provide the braking power necessary to control the higher rotating weight of ultra-sized wheels and tires, especially with high GVW vehicles and vehicles used for towing. TC6R kits are engineer application to be fully compatible with the OE master cylinder output and retain full function of the ABS system.
Almost ready to pull the trigger, got to sleep on it for a day or so.

Oh now I see it, somebody actually built an aftermarket slider caliper for the stock brackets... Thats... Crazy...

"Now you can spend tons of money on aftermarket calipers that still hang up and grind entirely through one side of the rotor prematurely"

Amazing

Genius waste of money

If you want to spend infinite money and then have brake pads you can't replace via autozone on a roadtrip I know a much better caliper/rotor supplier lol?
Great point, didn't think of that, all 3 pistons on one side where Wilwood has 6 pistons, 3on each side, I have an email in to Wilwood asking about the squeezing force on their 6 piston set-up.

@zenith - Let me know if you did the Wilwood brake install. I just got my H2 back from getting a bunch of updates and I had the Wilwood brakes installed front and rear. I will say they have some serious stopping power. Downside - I now drive faster and get even lower gas mileage.

My question for you and any other Wilwood brake fans is about the rear backing plates. With my install on a 2008 H2, there was not enough tolerance between the massive rotors and the OEM backing plate. In high turns over 35mph they would touch and make a grinding noise. The entire plate cannot be removed as it houses the parking brakes, so the flimsy sheet metal was cut away.

No issues with fit up front though

Curious if my backing plates were bent or out of spec, or if this is standard practice. Anyone else run into this?

My initial thoughts:
- they look great with the red calipers - BTW you can order custom colors
- they stop great - so much so that now I want to stiffen up the suspension
- they dramatically improve confidence in braking at high speed

I still need to fully test them out…

maybe check that your c clips in the rear diff are not worn down. That would cause the axle the move in and out a little. Worth also checking for vertical play in the wheel bearing.

I have not done any brake upgrades yet, still sorting out a few minor problems after engine build and Procharger.
