my wife's hummer has no door speakers that work just tweeters on dash. I bought new speakers and tried to install I noticed both wires going to the speakers are hot. never seen this before. anyway hooked one up it sounded like crap then blew that speaker. what's going on here?

 

you have a bad amp/radio, dc voltage on speaker lines. the tweets have a capacitor in series. it blocks dc volts.

ok guess I'll be looking into a radio. she didn't have the subwoofer and amp that I see some of these have. is the this is first!? meaning this doesn't happen on hummer or a sarcastic this is a first as towards me never seeing this before?

 

You should NOT have voltage in both speaker wires. Something is shorting and causing both wires to have power. Check at the rear of the radio and see if someone did ahack job on the wires back there. You may need to fix some stuff from a previous idiot owner.

 

no,just the first time I heard of "hot" speaker wires!

if the radio is blown it can put out dc volts. just get a new radio.

 

my radio has similar problems but only to left side , tweeter is working but no left speakers front and rear . just purchased a used radio but found out you have to bring it to the dealer to have it set up to your computer. the security system will not let you hook it up because it thinks its a stolen radio! anybody hear of this ?

 

It's prob. the cheap OEM base speakers. If your tweet is working the amp is working. Same signal powers the tweet as the front door speaker.

Buy 2 sets of speakers (1 front & 1 rear) you like and can afford and put them in.
