thanks on the avatar compliment.. and your son is right about the ram/processor the processor is most important if you have a high-performance processor or just a nicr one , it will run well and lock up less. I have an Intel dual core processor (like 2 in 1) and Intel is top of the line. Also I have 1 gig of Ram and thats probably the least I would go. eventually I would like to upgrade to 2 or 3 gigs, and RAM helps if you have lots of windows open at once (ex. iTunes, Word, Internet, Email all at once) your computer could run slowly, and be more likely to lock up if you dont have enough RAM . Also you need a good graphics card for Vsta, one with some extra room (I have 512 MB, regular is 128-256 MB) because the visual part of Vista looks cool but is very demanding

thats my Vista lesson for the day...;)

Proble with vista is that it uses a lot of ram and the minimum you should have is at least 2 gb, but 1 gb can be enough but a lot slower...I have 12 gb of ddr2 ram since it got really cheap, so I have no problem with running vista

Forget running vista on a single core
12 gig!?!?!?! im jealous! have you seen the macs (and please lets not get offtopic onto macs, (hate to bring it up)) that have up to 16 gigs of RAM , 8 core processors, gigs of graphics memory, and i think 3.5 terabytes! of hard-drive space? those things are rediculous!!!!!!!

and also, does anyone have experience with DDR3 RAM, is there really a noticable difference? is it just for PC or is it for notebook too?

I think we need a computer forum/subforum under off topic...

Vista to my knowledge is also coded using DirectX(atleast it was suppose to be when I stopped reading about it) so you would also need a decent video cards as well to run it smoothly too... But yea I only have tried Vista a few times(clients computers) and didnt enjoy it too much due to some differences in the UI and menu system etc

Do you want complete stats on mine?

12 gb ram ddr2(ddr3 is not thaat good and is too expensive for now)
2 quad cores (which is equivalent to eight with a total of 4.0ghz slightly overcclocked)
4 terabytes harddrive
I hate watercooling but I needed it
quad sli video cards and they are ultras

BTW you need a special motherboard to run two procesors

Wow, some real computer nerds on here....and I thought I was bad. After I got my desktop all set up to run AutoCAD I left it alone and bought this small laptop that I can take anywhere with me. It's not for gaming or anything like that but surfing the web and checking email works great. That and I got it for free, so I really can't complain. I did make sure to get all of mine before Vista came out though. I'm not a huge fan of XP or anything really. As long as it works, I'm happy but I heard that Vista ran a lot in the background. When I'm working from home, CAD takes a lot of memory and I don't need something else running in the background that might crash the program on me.

Yeah, our HP Notebook came with Vista and runs GREAT, but my techie friend said to leave XP on my desktop so that's WHAT I'M DOING!!! I don't have any problems with XP!!!
