Will GM revive Hummer?
What do you guys think, coming from the advertising industry I can clearly the strenght of the hummer brand and what a waste it is to just neglect it.
From my point of view (being from europe where GM is not concidered all that great as far as quality etc) GM is a great wrecker of brands (when they put their little logo on everything from hummer to cadillac instead of letting the brand speak for itself) but it feels like Hummer is still strong world wide. So now when it feels like the economy is recovering will it be revived?

Agreed. It's been nearly three years since the last Hummer rolled off the assembly line and while the people that drive them are dedicated we are fairly small in numbers compared to other GM brands.
As unfortunate as it is, Hummer is done.

The official HUMMER facebook page (controlled by GM) has been fairly active for the first time since they were shut down. They had a contest, that nobody won... and then were supposed to make an announcement after Thanksgiving... that never occurred, only replying that they were taking their time releasing whatever news they had.
That indicates that either
a) They are going to try and bring back HUMMER as a specialty brand for the enthusiasts
b) Have finally figured out having a massive following on facebook is a good way to pitch GM products to followers.
I still haven't figured out which. Although with the Hummer HX basically being nearly complete for R&D, it wouldn't be a stretch for them to release it on a limited basis.

No, it's a huge stretch, there are huge costs and implications to reviving a brand, even on a limit basis, the federal regulations, marketing, dealer distribution, liabilities, would make it impossible to release an HX under the Hummer nameplate, and trust me, GM's no longer in the business in releasing non-profitable vehicles in niche markets just to say they have a competing product. I love my H3 and really hate that GM discontinued the brand, but it's a reality...
I disagree, well branded niche luxury vehicles have a very high profit margin. Take Porsche for example, they make more profit per vehicle than any other manufacturer. The HX was very close to being released, interviews with the designers and marketing groups confirmed that, it was right on the edge... and I think it will come out when they are ready.
Is the market ready for it? I would say yes, even AM General is getting into it with the C-Series. They have a massive demand for them too.
GM also needs to compete with Ford, they are cleaning up with the Raptor. Bringing out a Chevy HD isn't going to be nearly as effective as dropping a full size HUMMER brand truck on the market. If I worked for GM, that is what I would be doing. A full size diesel truck with options for crew cab and 8 foot box so people with real work needs can use them, paired with an aggressive HUMMER front. It would dominate the market... people are looking for change and that new Sierra they just brought out is a dud.

It's not about competing, it's about profit, and although it would be more feasible to release something to compete with the raptor in the GMC or Chevy nameplate, don't look for a new Hummer dealer opening soon near you...
