I am beginning a carpc installation in my H2 andam thinking of molding a 7" or 8" touchscreen in the place of my stock Headunit...

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of somewhere to buy spare dash trim parts? Namely the centerone that surrounds the radio and A/C controls?
I dont want to modify my stock one, and would like to do the work on a spare so the original can stay in the car until the day of the install...

I was thinking of going to my local Hummer dealer's parts dept, but thought surely one could be found cheaper on the net somewhere....just not having alot of luck looking....

Somewhat along the same lines but have you seen the 7" slide out touch screen monitor for car pc installs? You wouldn't have to do any kind of molding at all plus it leaves enough room to mount a single DIN head unit underneith :-) Just a thought. They are listed on www.karpc.com.

 

Hummbob - Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for...

Zyne - yeah...I was looking at those...I just really wanted one that is a double din, and has a built in dvd player and touch screen, along with VGA input from a PC...problem is, those are just about impossible to find...

Yep, I've seen those. Ironically I took it out of the equation for the very same reason you went with it LOL! I've heard good things about that unit though, I'd say you more than likely got a far better product that the flip outs too!
I've looked at doing aCar PC install for quite some time now and I just can't bring myself to spend the money for some reason. I can think of a ton of uses for it, my ripped DVD library copied over, GPS, MP3's, broadband Inet (like you mentioned), somewhere to dump pics when the DSLR get's full LOL ... The system I was wanting from www.karpc.com wasn't bad in price either .. I just think it will become a novelty item to me after a few weeks after I get bored messing with it LOL!
Besides, with my !@#$!@#$!@#$ job I have (IT slave) a blackberry attached to me at all times .. it works as a tethered broadband modem for Inet connection on the laptop ... not the fastest in the world but it gets the job done. And yes, I'm attached to above mentioned laptop all the time too ..

I would definitely like to see how your install turns out though. I'm curious to see how you will solve the mounting issues and ultimately where you will end up putting the case. Pics bro, lots of pics lol!

 

Im hoping its all gonna look and function like I am imagining..total so far I have about a grand invested...(not counting the amp and subs which I brought over from another car)

I hear ya on the Blackberry and Laptop deal...Im a network admin for a large hospital here in florida...and ironically enough, the BES Admin role is part of my job, so not only am I attached to mine, I have to make sure everyone else' is working all the time too!

The case I bought is the same size as a standard amplifier...so I am prob gonan mount it under the 2nd row seat, next to my existing amp...well see how it goes...Dont worry pics will follow...
