What is this speaker for?

Hello all, I am a new 2003 H2 owner and i have two quick questions,

#1 There is a speaker on the headliner bye the drivers left ear, See picture,
What is this for, When i turn the car on i get a hum out of this, and it hums all the time. Is it for On Star?

#2 If you look at the picture, inside between the drivers door and the rear door, between the plastic panel and the headliner there is a round plastic thing,
looks like it has a solar panel inside, What is this?

Thanks for the help and am happy being part of a cool club, I traded in a 05 Honda Civic Hybrid for this beast and i love the car so much, Kyle

HI Kyle. I have a 2005 that has the same thing on the roof. Looks slightly different, but mine isn't a speaker. It's a mic for On Star and also for phone calls through the On-Star service. However, you said you were getting a "humming" noise from it. So that sounds a bit confusing.

As far as the black thing from the headliner you questioned, I have something similar on the pass side, and mine is for the aftermarket DVD player. With mine it's, the sensor for the DVD remote control. I can aim the remote at it, to control the screen and player controls. Maybe the same? Not sure what yours is equipped with.

Sirbob, Thanks for the reply, there are two speaker or mic, there is one near the front more and then there is this one in the back, i was thinking the one in the front was the mic and then the one in the back was the speaker since this has a humming noise.
It did have a aftermarket DVD player in it, I will check the sensor with the remote. Kyle
