weak reverse gear or failing transmission?
I have 2007 H3 3.7 with automatic transmission. I am having weak gear problems while driving in regular 4W. The thing is that if i try to reverse on a slight slope, lets say 30 degree angle, all i hear is big engine hum sound but no backing up no spinning weals. Same thing to go forward in regular 4W on slope. It also do the same for 4W front lock. If i put the car in 4W rear lock, everything get fine and H3 can take on slopes. On the road there is absolutely no problem with R and D gears on regular 4W. My car do 0 to 60 miles in 10 seconds.
So the question is, do all H3 do the same or do i have problem with transmission? I am driving 4W suv first time so i am little confuse about the transmission. My H3 will be out of warranty in next 3000 miles.

It sounds liek your transmission is working properly. The torque converter will "slip" until the engine hits a high enough rpm to move the vehicle. If you are trying to go up a 30 degree slope, it will slip until the engine hits a high enough rpm to move the vehicle up the slope. If you go into 4 low, it mill occur much lower in the engines rpm range.
^Hit the nail on the head.. the tc will slip until RPMs are high enough, hence power is high enough, for it to move the truck. The higher the degree of the slope, the more it feels the tranny is "slipping". And like he said about 4low, you wont notice it barely with 4low because there is so much torque.
fyi
on a slope like you mentioned my h3 in hi holds at apx 1000 rpm, moves with a light touch immediatly with a 300-400 rpm increase
in lo it holds at apx 800 and moves immediatly with a slight inc in rpm
appx same in reverse

I'm having same problem right now. My 2006 H3 was perfectly fine. I wanted to go wheelin and when I got off the freeway, I barely would move until high enough rpm's until about 25-30mph it starts really movin againg. I could climb a hill I've climbed many times and all the sudden it gives out w no reverse I could neutral back down and had someone pull me down. How embarrassing a hummer fail like that. I went strait home and felt like an old beater vehicle trying to get out of first gear lol. But No check engine light or codes. I'm just having one problem after another.
What does this mean? What do I have to do to fix yet another problem with this thing? Is my tranny shot?
The dealerships are dumb when it comes to vehicles. They have no idea what's wrong or why it would do whatever problem the vehicle is having. All they say is it's not common. But I read about all these common problems.
My hummer seems to be getting every problem in the book. It's sad that I just wanna fix it and trade in for a reliable fj cruiser and the mechanics are helpful and know about their vehicles.

@ Happythree. It makes total sense. Either way it's in the shop AGAIN. I only drivin it 5,000 miles since I've owned it and it's falling apart. Here goes another $2,500 dollars for a transmission. I put over $5,000+ into this thing in last 3 months just to keep it running right. This is the worst vehicle I've ever bought. Never agin will I buy another hummer. I have an 83 toyota 4x4 that's more reliable then this piece. Say whatever you want about how I feel towards HUMMERS but obviously were all on forums because our HUMMERS have problems. I'm done w HUMMERS. THEY SUCK!!! Buy an FJ and save your money and re-sell value is thousand times better. FJ's can do whatever HUMMERS can do too. Maybe I'll get $12,000 for trade in if I'm lucky. Good luck with your lemons.
sounds like you are angry at yourself for buying a bad one without a good checkout first. rightly so. you should have maybe got a helper to look it over.
if you read much here you will find mostly good reports of long miles and reliability with some automobile problems thrown in.
it sounds like your h3 was beaten b4 you got there. that happens with used cars and you gotta know what to look for and how to do it.
You're learning!!

Happy is absolutely right. H3's are great vehicles. You got a bad one. But you should have known what to check for before you bought it or had a mechanic look at it beforehand. It obviously was not well taken care of. When an h3 is taken care of it is a good vehicle. Just like any other vehicle.
Your experience is not the same as ours. I'm sorry you got a bad one, but it's not hummer or gm's fault. The previous owner obviously did not take care of it, and not to poke at you but you gotta humble yourself and learn from this mistake and educate yourself on what to look for in your next vehicle. I can help with that if you want. I have a whole checklist in my head of what to go over. and I go over a vehicle with a fine tooth comb. There's a lot of good people here that can help too. But you can't just come here with all of us and say hummer is a crap vehicle. There's a lot of very smart people here........I am not one of them. lol. But we know better and you should too.
Point is, this would have happened no matter what vehicle you purchased if it wasn't cared for, because you missed the warning signs when looking at it.
Let me know if you need any help. i'm glad to.
