Under powered my a$$

Im tryin to figure out why everyone think the I5 is underpowered. I always have enough power. Even when some dumb kid thinks his honda is quick my bone stock h3 makes easy work of it. Remember its not always the vehicle. I once saw a stock mercuray topaz keep pace with a trans am w56 from light to light. I even smoked a benz with the 6.3 with my v6 buick rendezvous. My point is you have to know how to use your vehicle or pull over and sit on your hands.

rsc 03-16-2013 11:19 PM

Wuz dis in GTA or fo realz???

staggs 03-17-2013 12:11 AM

in real life with both cars stock and running correctly a topaz will not keep up with a wS6, assuming you meant a S and not a 5. I will agree the I5 is not as bad as one make it, with stock tires, ive driven was worse, but it s definatly not a plant you ass in the seat powerhouse like you're making it out to be.

telemike 03-17-2013 06:04 AM

With my pcmforless.com tune, my I5 pulls so much better from 3-6k

PSE30 03-17-2013 08:51 AM

No dont plant u in ur seat i agree but its not always the car. And yes it was in real life. I had a stock v6 tempo with a cherry bomb and beat lots of vehicles including a dakota sport. Only one that got me in in was a beamer wich i knew i had no chance was just playin around. Again im not sayn its a race car just that i dont find it under powered with that said im still with alot of you wanting more but the difference is i want more torque everyone seems to want more hp. Lol.

rsc 03-17-2013 10:44 AM

Most of the underpowered comments are not related to getting away from a stoplight but highway performance. Getting off the line well probably has more to do with personal ability and gearing than brute power.

nlhummer 03-17-2013 01:32 PM

I even smoked a benz with the 6.3 with my v6 buick rendezvous.
How funny, I did the same once with my 50cc moped. It was a two stroke and I had added a little too much oil to the gas. Man, the guy with the benz was coughing his lungs out:D
Sometimes I wonder why the guy with the benz did not buy a rendezvous too and supercharged it. He would not have been put to shame by you in your stock buick:eek:

skeeter 03-17-2013 04:38 PM

first of all, yours is stock. lets double the weight of the wheels and tires, and add some more weight with protection. Now come tell me the I5 is not underpowered. I have more money in engine mods just so I don't get ranover while driving mine.

PSE30 03-18-2013 07:20 AM

Roflmao

PSE30 03-18-2013 07:46 AM

Like you said its more of the driver skill knowing where your power band is and the best shift points and just hammer down. But no i havnt added that crap to my truck yet eventualy yes then mabe ill complain like everyone else i suppose. I find the elevation and ambiant temp make the biggest impact on power at least here in ontario a nice cool morning and there usualy ready to rock.

skeptic 03-18-2013 08:28 AM

People say the I5 is under powered because it kinda is. Completely stock, it's adequate. Start adding bigger tires and weight from various mods and it becomes barely adequate. Now throw in some long steep hills for those of us who live in or near mountains and you'll find the I5 under powered.

Don't let your ego get in the way of the facts. The I5 is a good engine, but it's on the weak side for our trucks.

Driving skill of the Benz driver.

Put lever in D, stick finger in nose. carefully touch gaspedal. Rock back and forth in chair to pretent you want it to go faster. Let 30 year old spunk pass in his rendezvous so he can tell story on Hummerforum.

driving skills of rendezvous kid:

Left foot on brake. Rev engine. Blue smoke is coming out. YEAH!!
Let brake go and floor gas pedal.....LAUNCH CONTROL BABY!
Looks in rearview mirror. YESSSS the benz is behind me. I SMOKED HIM! I SMOKED HIM!

Next stop light. The Benz is next to him again. LAUNCH CONTROL AGAIN! YEAH BABY. Wait where did he go? Crap he turned left at that stoplight.
Must not have dared to do this again. VICTORY!!!!!

gpcalero 03-18-2013 06:35 PM

As much as I hate to say it, the I5 is underpowered for highway use. Not for lugging around town, there it's fine. But I live in FLORIDA where there's hardly any hills and highways are all flat. The only exceptions are the highway bridges. The change in elevation is hardly anything.....yet at 75mph, my H3 has to kick it down a gear just to maintain speed. Keep in mind I have 34.5 inch tires, and torsion lift. Those two things kick my ass in power and mpg. Highways are my only complaints. Other than that, I love my 3.

Just made my damn day!!!:D

A 4900 pound SUV equipped with a 5 cyl engine and you say its not under powered? I respect your opinion, but if you cant keep up to a damn honda civic, then your car is under powered. The h3 was not built to race, the I5 H3 and the word "power" do not go together end of story.

Seriously 16 yr old punk eh nice one bud. Try 30 and no punk here baby girl

staggs 03-19-2013 09:43 AM

Then why are you trying to race someone with a buick??? If you want power go drive an alpha, and then come back to me and tell me the I-5 is not underpowered. I think all H3s should have been equipped with the 5.3L

edit: post updated

PSE30 03-20-2013 09:32 AM

Oh thanks. Lol and wasnt tryn to race but it was a red he pulled up in a dead lane i hate wen people do that thinkn they will just get in front of everyone. No f that get in line. And i some wat agree about they should all have the 5.3 that should have been the base motor a 6.0 diesel should be the alpha motor then i would have waisted the extra cash to get the alpha not the base

Exactly. I have been waiting for GM to put that new 8.0 liter Ferrari Diesel in the H2. Very quick accelleration and with the diesel consumption of a prius. It is the best of both worlds that way. They are putting it in for the 2015 model year I heard when I was at the 4x4 wintershow in Miami last summer

PSE30 03-22-2013 08:00 AM

That sounds crazy. Lol. I like it

Darrell Hatt 03-22-2013 10:54 PM

hook a trailer to her and you will see its a bit gutless.i was disappointed with my 5 cyl

PSE30 03-23-2013 08:05 AM

I dont know if i could be disapointed with it i just love it to much. Lol

Hellbound710 03-25-2013 11:47 PM

He's right, i never had a problem when it came to picking up speed or going too slow. My engine purrs nice, I did also put in a cold air intake and a throttle body spacer which i took out because i hated that damn whistling. but i definitely can tell a difference with the new air intake

PSE30 03-26-2013 07:42 AM

What intake did u go with??

NJTEX 03-29-2013 03:37 PM

220 Horsepower and torque is fine for a compact/midsize. It wasn't all that long ago that even the full-size rigs offered little more than 150.
