My car will not start from 1st gear when in drive, i have to select gear one and only move into drive once going, the car will also not select 4th gear
the car is H2 2004 with 10,000 miles the red light comes on the dash for engine management, i am in the uk so getting info is pretty difficult, anyone with any ideas

 

Do you have access to a scanner? You will need to plug it in and see what the codes are. You might have a solenoid acting up. If no scanner is available try to disconnect the battery for 30 min and reconnect it to see if the problem goes away. Also check the coolant and transmission fluid levels to make sure a trans cooler in the radiator didn't break.

 

thanks for the help Phil, i do not have a scanner but i will call out the rescue service as they carry them to check the codes, i will have a go at disconnecting the battery though
i will also check the fluids

You could try Auto Transmissions in Barnsley - They fixed mine when my drive plate failed.
