Transmission Cooler... Again?!

2010 Hummer H3 Alpha. No off-roading. Under 45K miles.

Last year, under 11 months ago, the transmission cooler blew and flooded the engine and transmission. 3 weeks to flush out, repair and get back in the road.

This past week. H3 dies in the intersection. Engine starts, but put it in drive and no go. 4 hours waiting for Hummer Roadside assistance to finally get a tow.

Same issue, less than a year later. Thankful I wasn't on some deserted road or got hit.

I am very concerned that this will happen again (will be without the H3 for 2 weeks) and want to prevent it from happening as this is disconcerting.

Still under warranty, so that is not the issue, but safety is a huge concern.

Has anyone had the same issue?

Many, many you guessed many threads about this.... lol.

I know I started one a little less than a year ago. Crazy that such an amazing vehicle could have such a weak achilles heel.

I bypassed the stock trans cooler completely and went with a B&M 70264 cooler. Did they end up replacing your transmission?

Ah ha, I have it. You need to start off roading with that virgin ASAP!

H3 is still at dealer and will be there for at least another week.

Will know whether they will repair the transmission or replace it by end of the week.

The B&M you cite, is this a solution to the issue?

Yes, the B&M I used is just one of many different coolers that can be used. You probably want to wait until your warranty is done. Lower trans temps and no longer have to worry about coolant mixing with the trans fluid. Definitely worth doing!

UPDATE

Got a call from the dealer that it was not the transmission cooler radiator, but the transmission itself. The radiator is fine. So now begins the repair process of the transmission as well as flushing the engine which still had transmission fluid in it from the last time. I have no idea how as the H3 has been serviced 3x since the original issue and now.
