transfer case - 2008

have a 2008 with reported fork issues in the transfer case - vehicle was in for an oil & tire rotation service. I have been reading about the fork issue and it seems they were changed in mid 2007. what's the chance of having a plastic fork in a 2008 - first record in service is June 2008. wife's vehicle no driving issues noted, never seen dirt. I did push the low4 and did hear it clunk, sounds like it shifted, no dash indications of problems. will check the High 4 tomorrow. 2 months out of time warranty, approx. 44,000 miles. wondering how this local shop could determine that there was a plastic fork in the transfer case by visual inspection. any thoughts

They can't, they're fishing for work.

Plastic forks ended in mid 2007 model year, mostly early 2007 models built at the end of 2006 had them.
If you rarely use 4WD, even the plastic forks will last a long time before any problems show up.

thanks for the quick reply

still investigating, found NHTSA 10025288, service bulletin #08-04-21-005 that is for model year 2008 - lists the NR3 and NR4 transfer case, replace plastic mode fork, odd if they switched production in 2007
waiting for the library to open to search ALLDATA, time is not an issue, have other transportation and retired. Really appreciate you confirming that it can NOT be identified from the outside, might be old but not necessarily stupid. will keep you updated on how it turns out

fork

drove it to the parking lot today in normal 4H, shifted to 4low, light operated properly and can feel the difference, shifted to 4high locked can feel the difference light functioned properly. both 4high locked and 4 low locked seem fine, also did the same in reverse, only problem noted was I was unable to shift to neutral. neutral light lights on initial startup, but was unable to get the neutral light by holding down 4H & 4L is this common if the fork is failing?

most likely will go to a GM dealer for their opinion, but at the moment I am not in a hurry to replace the fork. transfer case sticker is

looks like you nailed it Bunger

Had it to the Hummer dealer today, no issues found, they were also able to shift it into neutral with no problem. Must be some small detail that I missed, followed the instructions in the owners guide and in Alldata but I could not get it to shift to neutral.
so all's well
