I have a 2003 H-2 and I want to tow a travel trailer. Dose any one know if you need an after market brake control.

 

Yes you do, unless the trailer is less than 2000 lbs or has surge brakes. it should be plug and play, unless you have the factory off road lights mounted

 

You do. I went with the tekonsha prodigy p2. It has an adapter for your h2 that is plug and play. I had an issue with mine. it wasn't getting power to the controller so when I removed my fusebox under the hood to trace the problem I found a connector that came from the battery was loose. tightened it and no problems. works great. used it for the past two-three years.

I went with the Tekonsha P3 Brake Controller on my previous 2005 SUT and loved it .... I hauled a drag car and 4-wheeler back and forth to the track. It was an Ebay purchase specific for the H2 and came with a "plug n' play" connecter. It worked perfectly the first time out. I have not tried it in the '08 yet though.

 

It should work in your 08' just as easily, I kind of wish I had bought the p3 just because it looks better.

 

Yea, that is kind of the reason I bought the P3 ... it does look better ... pretty lights and digital display that changes colors!

Sadly, I sold the drag car, trailer and 4-wheeler in favor of the Streetglide in my sig. Hopefully, we will have a toy hauler soon for bike rallies and I will put the P3 to use then. We have to sell toys to buy new toys in lieu of adding toys.

I wasn't sure if the '08 fuse box plug was the same as the '05 ... thanks for letting me know it should work in the '08 as it did in the '05.

 

Actually, it doesn't ... ! I just finished installing it. For those unaware, trailer wiring has changed in the '08/'09 models. The brake controller is no longer pre-wired to the fuse box like the '07 and earlier models ... it was plug 'n play on my '05 SUT. In the '08/'09, the brake controller pre-wire power must be connected to the fuse box, a fuse installed and the brake controller must be wired to the blunt end wire harness under the dash NOT a plug for the under dash fuse box like the pre-'08/'09.

I have yet to find the 12V trailer power cable (w/eyelet) in mine though.

 

On the 08/09 The wire with eyelet under the hood is kinda hidden. It is tapped down on the wire harness feeding in/out of fuse box on the motor side. Mostly black wire with red line... making that much harder to see but it is there. I believe it is folded back on its self.

 

If you have the factory off road lights it is not plug and play as I found out
