Default Towing vs Tire size

I know tires have been beat to death here, but I can't seem to find any information on my question. I need to buy tires and I will be towing approx 5500lb travel trailer. I like the looks of the 35's but I'm thinking 33's may keep me in my powerband while towing. Am I on the right track? Anyone tow with the 35's? Thanks

I run 265's and towing is slow going.

Thanks I don't plan on towing that often with the H3, I do have a 96 PSD that will do the job. I do want to use it to tow to the trails and dunes now and then.

What model and year is your hummer? Unless you have an Alpha you are way over the rated towing capacity with that trailer. That will lead to very expensive problems.

With a 6000lb towing capacity you will be pushing it with a 5500lb travel trailer. Remember that capacity is for a completely empty H3 Alpha towing 6000lbs. You will have to subtract for any people and gear you have in the rig and add to the trailer weight for anything extra in the trailer.

I've towed 4500lbs on a double axle with approx 1650lbs of passengers and gear on 315s (35s) and was pushing it on the hills. Dropped down to 40mph.

5500 Lb will be fully loaded trailer weight. Thanks for the reply I think I may stay with 33's for dd. As of right now I don't plan on serious rock crawling but...

From replies and more searching for information I ordered the 305-70-16 Duratracs and ordered the Bilstein Shock level kit from Trail Duty. Should get me started. Let the Modding begin. Will post pics soon. Thanks

I got these a couple of months ago.....couldn't have made a better choice. Quiet, handle good, look great with the extra width and the beefy tread. On stock wheels they do stick out from the fender a little. I added the E&G Fender Flares and they line up perfect.
