Toned it down a notch

When I took delivery on my H3 a couple of months ago, the only thing I wasn't thrilled with was the big "HUMMER H3" logo emblazoned on the tire cover I had ordered. IMO, the H3 doesn't need any extra identification and I felt the logo on the tire cover was just too much. I had hoped it was a bare cover with an embossed or debossed logo that was more subtle. The only similar one I was able to find was the tire cover that comes with the Tactical H3 but I think that's only available in the 32" size and I have the Offroad package so that won't work.

I spoke with the dealer about this and mentioned I'd try to remove the printing or paint it to achieve the look I wanted since they couldn't find what Iwas looking for through their parts network. The sales guy warned me not to try and paint it as one of their service techs had tried and not had good results. Not having found what I was looking for in the aftermarket (plain soft/rigid combo cover), I decidied to give it a shot myself. If it didn't work, I'd just order a custom painted one.

First I tried paint remover but that didn't completely remove the ink (screen or pad printed) and left a bit of a mess. So I decided to try the plastic paint available in rattle cans in a hammered finish at Home Depot. I prepped it and painted it yesterday and reinstalled it this morning. Came out OK and I decided to keep it until I can find something like the Tactical version. The match to the graphite-colored bumper cover is pretty close.

The tactical cover will fit 285's. There is about a 2 inch gap between the zippers.

So it fits 33" diameter tires as well? How does that work?

Here's the Tactical cover. Looks like it could be adjustable enough to fit. Anybody tried this yet?

Thanks USA1. When I get back from my trip next week, I'll call the dealer and order one.
