Tire Size

HI,

I have a 07 H3 luxury package and it is time for new tires. I currently have 265s with the stock 16 inch rims and had decided before I found this website (a couple days ago) that I would go up to 285s and keep the stock rims. But after reading this website it sounds like some have put even larger tires on theirs with no mention of a lift or even leveling the front. Would I have a problem with rubbing or anything else if I went larger than 285? I plan on leveling the front via the torsion bar adjustments next week, then new tires, then aglinment.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks!

Many people have put 33" tires (285/75/16 or 305/70/16) or 35" tires (315/75/16) on stock rims with no rubbing issues. If you do a T-Bar crank to level, the 35's MAY rub slightly on the sway bar at Full Lock of the steering wheel, but 35's will fit without leveling.
I run 33" Goodyear Duratrac's leveled to 23.5" and have NO rubbing issues.

Thank you everyone for your responses, and Mike thanks for the offer!

I just did 305/70 Duratracs and love them. I can definately tell that they are heavier and they will affect gas mileage but it should not be too bad. Also scored a like new class 3 hitch for $40. Gotta love craigslist!!!

Might be a dumb question, but does 33x12.50R16 = 285/75 R16?

Metric sizing does not convert directly to inch sizing

33x12.50R16 would be closer to 305/70/16

The first number in metric sizing is the tire width in mm
265 = 10.43"
285 = 11.22"
305 = 12.10"
315 = 12.40"

The second number is the aspect ratio, expressed as a percentage of the width. This determines the outer diameter of a tire.

285/75/16 & 305/70/16 are both commonly refered to as 33" tires. Here are the actual numbers

285/75/16 = 285 x 75% = 213.75 x 2 (tire walls) /25.4 = 16.83" + 16" (rim) = 32.83" tire OD

305/70/16 = 305 x 70% = 213.50 x 2 (tire walls) /25.4 = 16.81" + 16" (rim) = 32.81" tire OD

I also have an '07 Luxury and was interested in the same information. Great posts, thanks! Now need to find some pics of each tire size in action...
