The H3 is powered by a 20 valve dual over head cam 3.5 liter Atlas straight five engine. The engine provides 220 horsepower and is available with either a five speed manual or a four speed automatic transmission. General Motors is expected to power the Hummer H3 with a 5.3 liter Vortec 5300 V8 beginning with the 2007 model year, adding a diesel perhaps by the 2008 model year. The H3 also boasts an electronically controlled dual speed transfer case and electronic locking differential. The H3 gets about 16 miles per galon in the city and about 20 miles per gallon on the highway. The H3 has offroading capabilities and can fjord through 24 inches of water and is the only vehicle in its class to offer a two speed transfer case as a standard feature.
