Test drove H1 today

97.5 HMC4, 66,000 miles, clean carfax. a/c blows cold but fan only worked at highest speed, bad vibration at highway speeds (military mtr's on steel beadlocks) tires in pretty rough shape, nickel sized chip in the heated windshield. Started fine, shifted very smooth, everything worked, windows, lights, winch, low gear, etc. Noticed some oil near the front edge of the oilpan...gasket? Also a little fluid sprayed up on the driver's side frame rail by the transfer case, nothing dripping that I could see. Asking 29K...thoughts? Gonna look at it again tomorrow, what else should i dig into?

Were the leaks current or were you seeing evidence of old leaks? Fan motor isn't that big a deal. Check the fluid levels and see if the T-Case is overfilled. Do they have any records of maintenance on the truck. Get the VIN and have the closest Hummer dealer run the service history. It won't cover everything but will tell you a lot. If you have a Hummer dealer close to you it would be worth the $100.00 to have them check it out for you. Do you know anyone close by with an H1 that could look at it for you? The MT tires don't ride very smoothly and the more worn they get the worse they seem to get.

Check out the tires. They could be the problem for the bad ride. Otherwise the worst case scenario is bad control arm bushings & ball joints.
There are a few things that can go wrong with the hvac fan. For example, my truck's high hasn't worked in about two years. Since that's the only issue, I just live with it.
The windshields crack. I have a low comprehensive deductible for when the chips turn into cracks.

Dan, any update?

Well, the good news is the Hummer dealership here in town is not completely closed like I'd been told, just the sales department. They are still doing service (Mon-Fri) and when I had my Humvee they had 3 H1 certified techs there. Hopefully they still have one there that will do an inspection for me...bad news is the dealer allegedly closed a deal on the truck yesterday...
