Terrible smell from vent

As I said earlier, I just purchased my H3 on 7/11 with 4200 miles on it. From day one it had a horrible smell coming from the front vent when the A/C was on. I had the dealer check it out today while they were checking the front end and they said it was cigarette smoke????? I smoked in my suburban for years and it didn't smell like this. The previous owner must have tried to smoke himself to death to have this much smoke in it already.

Well, they said they could bomb the A/C to get rid of the smell for $70-$80. I told them I would pass and thought I would stop by advance auto and get the stuff and do it myself. Advance Auto saleswomen said I could change the cargo air filter and it should be located behind the glove box. They didn't have the filter but I took out the glove box just to check and I didn't see any filter there.

Have any of you heard about this bomb or the cargo air filter? If so let me know.

Sorry darlin..no cabin air filter in the H3...What you can do is; and I do smoke an occasional cigar (windows down)...Is get the fan running on high and push in the recirculate button and spray Fabreze (auto) at the floor/foot area of the cabin ..I mean really soak the carpet and seats (if their fabric)..spray generous amounts up under the dash on the passenger side, as that's where the air intake is..do this off and on for a couple of days..While your at it, spray Lysol air freshener too up under the dash on the passenger side too..eventually this all will neutralize the stink....It either that or change your socks (just kidding:D)

BTW..It wouldn't hurt for you windex the inside windows (for steak free, use a micro-fiber cloth.)and to completely wipe down all the vinyl everywhere, Dash, doors, etc with...

Trurtle wax brand F21 Super Protecatant...It has a real nice leather smell that really lingers..

this is generally due to condensation building in thevents when AC is on......the smell is moldy, stale air that's left over in the vents after you turn off the car with the AC on. here'sa "trick" that ihave done on my other cars from similar occurrences.turn off the "ACselection" on the fan blower a couple minutes before you get to your destination. this allowsthe outside "warmer" air tocycle and blow through the vents and help dissapate/evaporate any left over coolant and any condensation from the vent tubes/housings. when you turn on thecar, the smelly (musty)air should no longer be a factor.

thats what I was thinking...if you live in a humid climate it can make it worse too.

I had a small critter, maybe a mouse, build a nest in one of my past cars. They musta raised a few babies in the HVAC ducts. Well they pooped in there and it was rear nasty. I never totally got all the smell out of it.

I failed to mention it was in the HVAC ducts so everytime the blower was on it smelled like the outhouse.[:'(]
