Temp gauge going past the half way mark?
 

I have a 2007 h3 with 85000 km, this summer my temp gauge started to pass the half way mark and some times making it to 3/4. It has never overheated yet, but even now it the winter it still runs hot all the time. Is this normal for the gauge to be always over the 1/2 mark ?

no,if coolant is ok,could be thermostat, radiator,??
ive had 2 h3,they never went up to half,just a needle under,even stuk in traffic at 95 degrees

My '07 started running hot like that and it wasn't too long before I experienced the radiator blow out that is common for this model year. Do a search for it.

Question: Have you been in deep muddy water? Failure to do a good cleaning after playing mud bogger will definitely affect your cooling and is the most common cause I have seen.

There was a TSB on Temp gauge readings, you need to understand the OEM temp gauge is no precision instrument. Some read at the 3/4 mark, others read at 1/2, and a whole bunch read in between. At 3/4 you are nowhere near an over-heat. The TSB suggested an actual OBD test to read the temp more accurately, and if the gauge was found to be too far from actual temp, the gauge was to be replaced (it really was to make people think everything was cooler and nothing more was to be done).

At 85K you are close to a radiator coolant flush and fill anyways.

i switched from 5W30 to 5W40 synthetic and this dropped the temp reading by a couple of mm....dont know if this is related but ....
I use to run at half way mark between half and 3/4 in summer, but only up hill with A/C on...otherwise it was always on half or just under...but now, it doesn't go over half at all with the new oil....

need help? my bat died last night and I jumped it off and reset comp also. Now my temperature gauge doesnt work. I can crank it and it'll show temp for about 10 sec. then quits working. anybody have any idea what this could be?

Disconnect the battery, wait about 10 minutes, and reconnect it to see if your PCM and BCM reset.

I'd agree it sounds like flush, clean & fill time for the Rad!
I have used vinegar and water b4 to cln the Rad...It works quite well.

I came back out the next morning and it started working again and is still working. I reset it the night before so I guess that worked. Thanks for the input and the time to answer my question.

I have the same issue..... Bought and installed a ScanGauge II...... Even at 3/4 on the dash gauge with an outside temp of 101 F..... ScanGauge reads 202 F. I hate GM gauges in the dash. Inaccurate POS!!!!!
