Stock Tranny Cooler location

Since my H3 came with a factory hitch and light wiring, I assumed it came with the tow package. I bought it used, so I don't know for sure. I was under the impression that this setup came with tranny cooler, but looking into the grill there is no tranny coller. Does anybody know if all the tranny coolers mount to the front of the radiator, or does the H3 come with an internal or rear mounted cooler?

My suggestion would be a B&M cooler for a 14,000 lbs G.V.W. It should be installed in front of the radiator for maximum tranny cooling, or to the side or alternate location if engine runs hot. This is a very small cooler and I have had one installed before in one of my vehicles. It was a 68 Impala with a 425 hp V8 and a TH 350 tranny. I really, really beat on this tranny, and never had any problems with it. It always ran cool, and I attribute it to the cooler. If memory serves me well, it was only about $60 and less then $100 to install. Hope the info helps.

No factory cooler on the tow package, other than the usual suspect that's found in most radiators that are in a auto tranny vehicle. Unless they started adding them in these later years, but our 06 didn't come with one with our tow package.

If you're looking at getting one, sometimes just asking a local tranny rebuild shop what they recommend is a good idea. They often know which ones flow best, and are often up on what's new out there.

I believe Fireman is correct.

The H3 just has the usual loop through the radiator for trans cooling. Adding a good quality tranny cooler is always a good idea.

When you install the aux. cooler youmight think about putting an in-line magneticfilter in the trans fluid return line. WIX makes anice one for about $20 (WIX Filter #58964)

Next to a cooler.....,it's the best thing you can do for your transmission!!

I put 'em in all my rigs!!
