Default Steering Rack Mounting Bushings Worn

Just took our recently purchased 08 H3 in for state inspection. The mechanic said the steering rack mounting bushings are worn. He called me into the shop to show me. With the car on the lift he pushed up on the wheel and I saw the rack move inside the bushings. He said this is what causing the tires to cup.

I told him that this was probably covered under warranty. Don't know for sure but when I said that he replied that they were not bad enough to fail inspection.

Is the guy right or was looking to make a few extra bucks?

Should these have worn out in only 30K miles?

Bill, what size tires are you running? Hunner in Arkansas realized that it may be a problem down the line and developed a solution... Send him a pm or email to see what you think...

The tires are the originals with 30,800 miles as of today. I'm too new here to know who Hunner in Arkansas is.

I'll do a search for that name.

hunner is a guy that wheels his H3 alot and has developed solutions to any problems he has come across... Good guy w/ alot of info... However I would also think that this issue would be covered under warranty, no?

If you are still under the bumper to bumper portion of the factory warranty they will cover it.

Still under warranty. I just like to have facts before I go to dealer or mechanic just in case they try bluff their way out of it. And, if there's a better solution than stock parts I might be interested since the next time they go bad it will not be under warranty. I would prefer to not have to fix this every 30K miles.
