spark plug gapping with supercharger
08 H3
5 speed Wheel to wheel supercharger. Pulled plugs to install supersparks and new plugs. Whoever installed the supercharger put NGK Iridium plugs in, but they are gapped to approx .053. Factory is .040 correct? Is it normal to increase the gap with forced induction. Need opinions on if i should go back to the factory specs or stay at .053. There is so little info when looking on google. I guess because it was not in production long. |
I would check with the "tuner" crowd on the Canyon/Colorado forums.

Most supercharger manufactures recommend the factory gap or slightly lower gaps.

thank you all for the information. I went ahead and gapped the plugs at. 040. It's amazing how much power loss I had from the overgap I would not have thought it would make that much of a difference.

With the amount of pressure a supercharger forces in, that pressure can basically wash out a large weak spark before igniting. A small gap gives you a stronger spark that is difficult to wash out.
