She just died on me
Driving home last night my 2003 H2 just cut out. Won't restart. I have battery power. Tried a new battery and jump start but nothing happens. Starter motor doesn't even tick over.
Local mechanic says he thinks it's a computer fault. Anyone experience similar? |
Could be the starter you know
|
a bad starter is not going to cause the engine to die driving down the road...
Does anything power up at all? lights, dash, etc? |
I have lights, AC, windows but the dials don't respond although they're lit up. Also the gear selector moves but this is not shown on the display.
When I turn the key there's a single click and thats it. |
wow, I'd start pulling and checking fuses and relays in the engine compartment.
|
Ok, mechanic reckons it's a shortcircuit. Just has to find it.
|
I would agree that this sounds like some kind of computer malfunction. Keep me posted on your progress and I would be happy to look into this further for you if you are not able to have the concern resolved. Thank you.

If Peggy thinks it's a computer.... then I would look at the main wiring harness.... the red box under the alternator would be my first check.... and then follow that to the battery, and down to the starter. On the way back.... check the grounds as well.
The main B+ harness runs under the harmonic balancer and over to the starter on the passenger side... you will have to drop the skidplate to see it.... |
I've taken her the the GM main dealership and they say it's a short circuit. Hopefully they can find it. Thanks for the offer Peggy. I'll keep you posted.

So it turns out the fuel pump had a wiring fault which caused a short circuit that destroyed the fuel pump and the ECU. $350 later she's running fine again.
