Rough idle worse suddenly

For many months now I've had a slight rough idle buzz in the steering wheel; not too bad. Well, Saturday I changed the engine oil and the transmission mount (Energy Suspension 3-1129G). Now the buzz and vibration is 3X worse!

What could have caused this? Is the new trans mount too stiff?

that is what it sounds like. that buzz is normal for the I5

FWIW (for what it's worth) I had a rough idle, cleaned the MAF & throttle body. Worked for me.

I do not know why you changed the Trans Mount, but yeah, that is your culprit. Look at what the spiel is.... from Energy Suspension: "Mushy stock rubber transmission mounts can't take the torque and vibration of high performance street and race use. Energy Suspension polyurethane transmission mounts can. Polyurethane lasts longer than rubber, can handle more horsepower, and is soft enough to absorb vibrations."

With a naturally balanced V6 or V8, sure that mount is "soft enough", but I5s are not inherently balanced. So a tight Trans mount will transfer more vibes.

Thanks, 4Scargo. I did the same Saturday and the idle didn't smooth out a bit.

I also noticed that the neck on the TB inlet is incomplete. There is a lip (so the intake tube can lock on) only half way around it. Is this typical, or did I get a bad casting? Do you think the rubber transition from my AirDoc will seal completely on it?

Not sure it's wise to mix rubber and urethane mounts. They move and flex very different.

Yes, the lip does not go all the way around, that is the design. There is no need to "lock" anything, all you need is minimal clamping strength.

Yes, the Air Doc silicone coupler will clamp on to it w/o any issue, considering the 3/4" T Bolt is far superior to the factory worm clamp.
