Replacing the Auto Headlamp Sensor

For the rare occasion that the Auto Headlamp Sensor (little black dome in the dash) needs replacing.

It can be done without stripping down the entire dash, as follows:-
  1. Drop your glovebox by pressing the tang in (RHS) this gives you more room.
  2. Slide your arm in through the top LH corner to reach the sensor and rotate it until it releases.
  3. Hard bit, examine your new sensor and notice the locking part section (no pins) Grip the old sensor beneath the hole in the dash and press-in the locking-tang with a small screwdriver. You only need get the tang partially started, then gently pull the sensor against the harness to pull-out the connector. A little bit of patience is need, long thin arms help (best not to ask the wife I found)
  4. Refitting is easy, manipulate the new sensor into position and rotate to lock it in place, The connector should then easily push back in.
The whole job can be done in a few minutes once you know how, its a bit like "the gynaecologist who decorated his hallway through the letter-box" if you get my drift!
