Received check from insurance now what?
Maybe someone can help me, the insurance company sent me a check for the hail damaged on my H3 they said the adjuster said last week that if there is a problem to have it fix for that orice the body shop should call a 800 number and they will send someone to reinspect the H3. They have made the check payable to me, so should I deposit the check until I have it fix or not? I am wondering that if I cash the check it will be like closing the file.
Thanks

they are giving you the money to fix your H3. you deposit it and have it repaired by you paying for it. since there are several body shops that can repair dents, they are paying you so you can go to any shop you want that is within that price range. Usually insurance companies pay the body shop directly unless the vehicle is a total loss, but since it was just hail, they pay directly to you. might want to call the insurance company still and check to make sure there was no other confusion. you do have the option of just pocketing the money and not getting it fixed but then you have to look at hail dents for awhile.
This is actually pretty common, put the check in the bank and then if you have a CC that can handle the balance us that to pay the shop. It adds another layer of consumer protection should things go south. Oh and when you get the CC bill go ahead and pay it off with the money from the bank.
It is common for the insurance companys to do that,They give you the check hoping that you will pocket the money and they never hear about it again.I would take it in and make sure it can be fixed for the amount they gave you.I am a pdr tech and have seen insurance companys pay the claims right to the customer and sometimes I have not been able to get all the dents out and the body shop might have to replace a hood and then you have to fight the insurance company if there isnt enough allowed for conventional repair.I usually work with the body shops on bad hail jobs, what i cant get out they fix and they ask the insurance company for additionals to fix it right.A lot of insurance companys give the customer the check knowing that the money will dissapear before the car gets fixed and they wont have to deal with them, case closed.Just my 2 cents.I also have fixed a lot of hail and the customer and i have walked away with money in our pockets it just depends on how bad you H3 has been damaged.Just make sure you dont hire a hack to do your pdr you wont be happy with the results.
Yes, once you cash the check you have agreed to that amount. I got burned in a deal with State Farm like that one time. Hold the check till the work is done and then cash the check and pay for it or sign it over to them or if its not enough then you call the insurance company back up and tell them you still have the check and its not enough. Not nearly as much to go through if you do it that way. But I also like the idea of cashing, BBQ, Beer and calling the buds.... Where you at and when???
Hi,
When they have given you the cheque then they are expecting you to take care of the repairs. Get that cheque cashed and you can proceed with the repairment. Its for sure the time you would get the cash the acount is close for you.

I'm not sure what your situation was slumlord but my wife just went through State Farm about 4 months ago when she was rear ended. They gave us a check for 5 grand we deposited and the repairs ended up being 6 grand. We went back to them for the extra thousand and got a check in the mail 2 days later.
