Powder Coating the Rims

Has anyone every done this? If so how has it held up? I am thinking of doing it just like the hummer guy's H3 project truck

Also anyone in or around the San Diego area want to trade crome mirrors and door handles for the black ones.....need to "de-crome" my black Alpha :-)

Thanks

PC'ing has held up great on my set... so well that I am going to have the H3T steelies done in the next couple of weeks! They lost their luster after about a year but that was single coat no clear...

My Cepek powder coated rims have held up ok, except for some serious scratches from boulders, but that was on the outer ring, which can be removed and re-coated or just painted.

I know a few people that have used Dupli-color on their wheels with no issues. Plus, once they scratch you can just touch-up or repaint. I had to use Dupli on a center cap since my Tactical didn't come with a cap on the spare and I wasn't about to spend $200 on a center cap.

what is the going rate for powder coating 5 wheels? I have been wanting to do this for awhile just have not put any effort into finding someone to do it for me.

DAGKANA Jan 3, 2011 01:22 PM

It depends on location... around these parts its about $70 a wheel...

Just hit the yellow pages and look up powder coating in your area... make a couple of phone calls and check out websites... viola! your doneski!

Thanks for the comments guys.....I called a place today and they said around $50 for one coat but a two week turn around which isn't going to work, I was thinking a few days at most.

DAGKANA Jan 4, 2011 08:02 AM

Im assuming you were only gonna have them PC your stock wheels? Why not pick up a spare set to run in the mean time? 2 week turn around is pretty standard... If you plan on wheelin it Id recommend two coats...

I am actually leaning towards that now. I have the chrome rims (not the luxury) so I might just try and sell them. What do you have on yours, can’t make them out and can’t find any other pictures?

I have a set of the spoke style OEM rims Powder Coated Black and now I am running a set of the H3T Steelies that I am also gonna powder coat black...
