painting trailer hitch steel plate good idea?

Default painting trailer hitch steel plate good idea?
i want to know if anyone has painted the steel plate that covers the hitch on there h2 cause i was thinking about painting mine desert sand the color or my ride wantede to know if that is a good idea an if it would last an not start to chip an peal off?

I believe that if you clear coat it also you should be good to go
